- Conferred with the ‘Solar Man of the Year’ title on two occasions, Vineet Mittal, Chair, Avaada Group, is a social entrepreneur and pioneer of clean energy transition in India. After creating successful businesses in the BPO and IT space, he floated Welspun Energy in 2010, becoming India’s largest renewable energy company with an installed base of 1.2 GW. In 2016, the platform was sold to Tata Power for US $ 1.4 bn.
- Vineet strongly believes that energy is inversely proportional to poverty. With increased energy access, India can overcome its poverty problems and provide its citizens with a better quality of life. Driven by his passion for sustainability and clean energy transition, in 2017, he floated the second platform and named it ‘Avaada’ – Ayurveda + Vaada – which translates to a promise of a sustainable future.
- Avaada Group is India’s leading integrated energy group with business interests in Solar Module Manufacturing, Electrolyser manufacturing, and Green Ammonia production. The group is completely aligned with the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Under the leadership of Mr. Mittal, Avaada Group has recently closed a historic $1.3B funding round, the largest in Asia's green energy sector from Brookfield Renewables and Global Power Synergy Public Company Limited (GPSC).
- An alumnus of Harvard Business School, Mr. Mittal currently holds the position of Co-chair, of Energy, Climate Change, and Resource Efficiency, B20 Task Force India. He is also a Co-chair, of the CII RE Council, Chairman of the CII sub-committee on Hydrogen usage and standards, Co-chair of the CII National Council on climate change, and Co-chair of the Make in India Task Force.
- In 2012 and 2014, Vineet was announced as the “Solar Man of the Year”. He is an active member & speaker at World Economic Forum. He is on B20’s task force for financing growth and infrastructure and Energy, Resource Efficiency & Sustainability.
